I made this project as a member of rukristin’s design team, and it was originally posted here on her blog.

One of the fun things about Arty being almost-four is the breadth of new adventures we’re now able to go on together.

We no longer have to worry about nap times, change facilities, or 10 minute attention spans. We’re able to roam further, and to far more interesting locales.

His world is opening up, and mine is too.

Last week I took advantage of this newfound freedom and visited the Melbourne Museum. It was such a fun day, that I decided I had to make a special mini book for us to remember it.

I used the Aurora 6×6 Paper Pad from Basic Grey as my foundation for this project, because the starry, geometric prints, and gemlike colours made me think museum-y thoughts. They were so pretty and bold that it seemed natural to let them to do the heavy lifting design-wise.

I also wanted to emphasize the experiences we were having, and the way we were feeling as we had this adventure, so I chose some big expressive verbs and stamped them large with the Basic Alphabet Clear Stamp Set, a 2×4 Acrylic Stamping Block and some StazOn ink in jet black.

I love the way the second press looks when stamping with letters. It’s more textured and a bit softer. So, with each stamped heading I inked up the stamp, stamped it once on scrap paper, and then stamped it where I wanted it to go in the book. I love the varied depths of intensity that method achieves.

Arty loved looking over this book with me after I’d made it, and going over our experience again. He even remembered a few details that I’d left out, so I think I’m going to have to go back and annotate it with his amendments. Scrapbooking with preschooler commentary is rough, guys.

Inspect, wonder, listen, discover, admire, imagine, explore, share. We did all of these things and more on our day at the museum, and that’s what made it so special.
